What time did my shift start? 8 hours ago and timesheets
How to reconstruct a shift start from “I just finished eight hours”, including midnight wrap, unpaid breaks, and why 8 hours ago is not a payroll clock.

The usual question
You finished work. The shift was supposed to be eight hours. You want the start clock time for a timesheet, a parking argument, or a “when did I leave the house” note. Open /8-hours-ago. The page subtracts 28,800 seconds from the device clock.
If you clocked out at 00:40, eight hours ago is 16:40 the previous calendar date. Write both the start and the end with dates. A timesheet that only has hours will look like you worked a negative day.
Breaks are not in the offset
Eight elapsed hours includes whatever you did in that window. If you had a 30-minute unpaid break, the paid shift is 7.5 hours and the start is not 8 hours ago. Subtract the break yourself, or use the difference calculator with the real start and end you already know.
This calculator will not know your roster. It only knows the offset you type. If the roster says 09:00–17:00, write 09:00–17:00. Do not reverse-engineer it from “now” unless “now” really is the end of the shift.
Night shift
A 22:00–06:00 shift crosses midnight. At 06:00, 8 hours ago is 22:00 yesterday, which is correct for that roster. At 06:00, 1 day ago is 06:00 yesterday — the previous clock-out, not the start. Night shifts are why the hours-ago hub exists separately from yesterday.
